Bangkok Refugee CenterThe Story: The Bangkok Refugee Center (BRC) is responsible for provision of basic services (education, social work, psychosocial, medical services, and community outreach services) to urban refugees in Thailand. These displaced people come from 44 countries including Sri Lanka, Laos, China and Somalia.

Target: Asylum seekers (people awaiting recognition as refugees) and recognized refugees.

Goal: We’ll quote the BRC’s vision which says, “To proactively render appropriate humanitarian relief services, particularly to the extremely vulnerable individuals that will enable them to live their lives with dignity and encourage them to be productive and caring members of their community.”

Final Word: Due to the steady stream of refugees into Bangkok and limitations of the UNHCR, the BRC can only offer limited services to asylum seekers. The result is a large group of people who find themselves hungry, homeless, and with little hope. ISOS hopes to play a role in changing these conditions.
