Why: What is the Ottawa Treaty? Who benefits? And how can we get involved?
Thailand signed the Ottawa Treaty, or Mine Ban Treaty, on 3 December 1997 and it entered into force on 1 May 1999. Many Thai people have lost their legs, arms, lives, and family members because of mines that have remained in the land in many provinces in Thailand.
For more than 10 years, the Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) has continued to spread information about the effect of landmines on ordinary people, campaign for the banning of landmines and lobby the government to fulfill its obligations under the Ottawa Treaty.
***Free lunch and refreshments provided so no excuses!***
