I thought about the times I have made monetary donations, usually it is in reaction to a report of a disaster or situation. I also give on a regular basis, small amounts to "charities of my choice" based on what I have heard about them and what I think I can afford. In terms of giving my time, I have to admit I do not do that. I am not good at being emotionally detached and am sometimes scared of my emotional response if I were to do what you seem to effortlessly and generously do, ie "give" unconditionally of yourself, direct to those in great need. So maybe I "don't give" from the bottom of my hurt. Saying that, I love your blog and always try to learn from you. Hmm, what an interesting question to pose.
