In Search of Sanuk is an 100 Friends Project, a registered 501(c)3 tax-deductible charity organization in the United States. ISOS is concerned with alleviating the ills of urban poverty in Bangkok. This is done by promoting individual action through volunteering initiatives and sharing quality information on organizations working to build stronger, healthier communities. In Search of Sanuk (ค้นหาความสนุก) เป็นหนึ่งในโครงการ 100 Friends ซึ่งเป็นองค์กรการกุศลที่จดทะเบียนอย่างเป็นทางการของสหรัฐอเมริกา โครงการของเราเป็นห่วงเกี่ยวกับชุมชนยากจนในกรุงเทพฯ เราพยายามที่จะสร้างชุมชนที่เข้มแข็งและสมบูรณ์ขึ้นโดยการเข้าไปมีส่วนร่วมของอาสาสมัคร และเผยแพร่ข้อมูลที่มีประโยชน์กับองค์กรอื่นๆ
What does sanuk do?
-Education
ISOS currently fundraises and organizes a Saturday School on the campus of KIS International School. The program allows high school students from KIS to volunteer with kids from two poor communities in Bangkok. Each Saturday the children study reading and the project aims to improve their English literacy.

-Rent Stipend Program
About 10 families are supported by our rent stipend program, which serves to alleviate poor families’ biggest expense. The money allows families to focus their resources on providing food and education for their children and care for their other family members. Families selected for participation include widows, single parents or families with members suffering from serious medical issues.
-Livelihood Handicrafts
To encourage families who aren’t able to work to play a role in their families’ future, we decided to create a project producing handicrafts which are handmade by the families we sponsor. We organize volunteers to train the families and use the products to raise money for the project. This project gives families a sense of purpose and provides them with a skill they can use in the future.

Who is sanuk?
The In Search of Sanuk Project was started by Dwight Turner in late 2008. Dwight is from Atlanta, GA and has spent several years working in Thailand teaching and writing. He reads and writes imperfect Thai, loves living in Bangkok, and is overly active on social networks.
However, Dwight’s passion has been helping people and encouraging others to do the same. In Search of Sanuk looks for small ways to make a big difference in the lives of others. Over time Dwight and friends have clocked hundreds of hours volunteering, successfully spreading the word about worthwhile causes, and finding tons of ‘sanuk’ or fun in the process.
